the REASON for this site
The Masonry Restoration Institute was founded on a simple belief: the challenges facing masonry restoration are global, and the knowledge to solve them should be shared without borders.
Across the world, engineers, architects, researchers, preservation professionals, and specialist contractors are developing solutions, publishing research, and gaining valuable field experience. Yet too often, that knowledge remains fragmented—hidden in academic journals, conference papers, technical reports, or individual experience.
The Institute brings that knowledge together in one independent, searchable resource. From peer-reviewed research and technical papers to practical case studies, articles, videos, podcasts, and field investigations, our goal is to create the world’s most comprehensive knowledge platform for masonry restoration. Content can be explored by topic, building type, material, geographic location, and contributor, making it easier for professionals everywhere to learn from one another.
Founded by Alan Pettingale, Michael Schuller and Gillian Lancaster, the Masonry Restoration Institute exists to connect expertise, encourage collaboration, and preserve the collective knowledge of the profession for future generations.
Knowledge Without Borders.
